New Format Number Plates 26/02/2001

This year sees the issue of a new number plate format by DVLA. The new format has come about because the current 'prefix' way of indentifying the year or age of a vehicle has come to an end. The prefix system has been in existance since 1983 starting with A followed by B in 1984 C in 1985.. you get the idea. However the years have come and gone and we have now reached the end of the alphabet.

New format registration plates now consist of no less that seven characters and more than one way of identifying where and when they came from. The structure of the plates is the first two initials represent the place the reg plate or car was issued, this is then followed by two numbers that represent the date of issue see our FAQ section for more information
